Thousands of civilians in the Central African Republic are facing an imminent danger of being attacked, according to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).

Attacks and counter attacks by former Muslim rebels known as ex-Séléka and Christian militias known as Anti-Balaka continue despite the efforts of the country’s new government to stabilize the situation.

UNHCR says the targeting of civilians based on their religions has been happening since September last year.
