Despite progress that African countries have made in providing water, sanitation and energy to their people, they still face challenges, according to Water Aid, a London-based non-governmental organization.

Girish Menon, the Director of International Programmes there, was at UN headquarters to participate in a UN General Assembly debate on the issue.

The United Nations estimates that 2.5 billion people don’t have access to adequate sanitation and just over one billion still practice open defecation.

Mr. Menon spoke to UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha about the situation of water, sanitation and sustainable energy in Africa.
