One of the  Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that world leaders set to be achieved by 2015 is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

But, there are still more than 800 million hungry people around the world according to United Nations estimates.

Now, as 2015 approaches, the focus is shifting to sustainable development goals, or SDG’s which will come after the MDGs.

To find out about how far the world has gone in meeting these goals UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha sat down with Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Assistant Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Mr. Jomo, as the FAO official is known, was at the UN headquarters in New York recently to participate in meetings of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals.
