“Top down” approach denies indigenous Bangladeshis access to health services

Indigenous people in Bangladesh are being denied services because of what is being called a top-down approach to providing health care.

Tuku Talukder who belongs to the Chakma community in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh says health policies are made without the participation of local people.

She recently took part in a UN meeting on Indigenous Peoples’ Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights in New York.

She spoke to Daniel Dickinson about how indigenous groups of being marginalised.
