Members of the UN Security Council have voted unanimously on a resolution that will bolster efforts “to protect civilians and restore security and public order” in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Resolution 2127 also authorizes the sending of French troops in CAR for a temporary period, to support the African-led Peacekeeping Mission in CAR (MISCA), and allows for a more robust mandate involving the use of military force.

The Council met on Thursday in New York, hours after non-identified armed elements attacked the capital Bangui, leading to loss of human life and targeted assassinations.
