Small Island Developing States ask for review of their “Middle Income Status”

Some small Island Developing States (SIDS) feel stuck since they made the transition from Low Income to Middle Income Status.
Delegates from the Maldives, Grenada and Suriname expressed these views on Tuesday, in their address to the UN General Assembly.
They are no longer considered “poor” and therefore have lost crucial development aid.
The SIDS representatives urged world leaders to review their classification, pointing out that they still face unique and particular vulnerabilities.
