After what has been described as “intense diplomacy and negotiations” on a response to Syria’s chemical weapons programme, diplomats at the United Nations have come up with a draft resolution.
The representatives of the United States and Russia announced on Thursday afternoon that they have reached a compromise draft resolution on the matter.
Concern about this issue was magnified by the reported chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb on 21 August.
A team of United Nations experts who investigated the matter confirmed that the attack had, indeed, taken place.
