World leaders gathered in New York for the annual session of the General Assembly discussed nuclear disarmament on Thursday.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to have peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons.

In the United Nations Millennium Declaration they adopted in 2000, world leaders committed themselves to strive for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons.
