Thousands of people in the Central African Republic have fled to the international airport in the country’s capital Bangui to escape violence, according to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).

According UNHCR, armed groups have increased their attacks on civilians in the Boy-Rabe and Boeing neighbourhoods.

The agency says that life for civilians in Bangui has been really difficult in the past ten days as a result of arbitrary arrests, torture extortion and armed robberies.

To find out more about the situation in the Central African Republic, UN Radio’s Patrick Maigua spoke with UNHCR spokesperson in Geneva, Babar Baloch.
