President Jacob Zuma of South Africa recently signed into law the long-awaited Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has welcomed this development which makes trafficking in persons a crime in South Africa.

It says that the new law can serve as an example and encourage other African countries to follow suite in combating the scourge which affects all countries in the world.

UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha discussed this development with IOM spokesperson Jumbe Omari Jumbe on the line from Geneva.
