[UN Photo/Rick Bajornas][/caption]Indigenous people from around the world are in New York for the two-week 12th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues  which started on Monday.

The Forum is an advisory body to the UN Economic and Social Council and focuses on issues related to economic, social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights of indigenous peoples.

One of the communities represented in the Forum is the hunter-gathers Ogiek indigenous people of Kenya.

UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha caught up with Peter Kiplangat Cheruiyot, Programme Officer of the Ogiek People’s Development Programme to find out about their situation in Kenya.
