Conflict and market disruption lead to food insecurity in Mali

Food insecurity has become a major concern in the remotest areas of the Mopti region in Mali.

The World Food Programme (WFP) says it will be scaling up assistance in northern Mali, especially as the lean season gets underway.

But the agency says funding is urgently needed to support those affected by the conflict in Mali and also for Malian refugees in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger.

In this interview with UN Radio’s Patrick Maigua in Geneva, WFP’s Elizabeth Byrs explains the agency’s concerns.
