Senior humanitarian official says Syrians losing hope as crisis deepens

The Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the Arab League, Lakhdar Brahimi, has reiterated his call for all parties in Syria to reach a solution that would in his words “meet the aspirations of the Syrian people.”

Brahimi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Monday to exchange views on the steps to be taken to help bring an end to the nearly two-year old crisis in the country.

Last week the UN launched a $1.5 billion appeal to continue assistance to displaced Syrians both inside the country and in neighbouring Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

Donn Bobb caught up with John Ging of the UN Humanitarian Affairs office (OCHA) who says relief agencies are struggling to provide aid as the situation in Syria continues to deteriorate.
