Syrian conflict takes on sectarian nature: UN independent experts

What started as a protest against the government and developed into a conflict, is now becoming sectarian violence, according to a new report on Syria.

The report, covering the period between the end of September to 16 December of this year, was compiled by the Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria.

In what has been described by its chairperson as “very gloomy”, it paints an “extremely bleak picture of the devastating conflict.”
