The Security Council will meet on Wednesday afternoon in relation to the current crisis in Gaza.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been monitoring the health situation created by the conflict, and says a shortage of essential medicines is a concern. It is appealing for $10 million to restock medical supplies.

Patrick Maigua spoke on the line to Gaza to Dr Mahmoud Daher, head of WHO’s sub-office there.

He reports that so far, the violence has killed 132 people, nearly 60 of whom were women, children or the elderly, while more than 1,000 people have been injured.
