At least 264 people were arbitrarily executed by armed groups in attacks on villages in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo between April and September of this year.

That’s the finding of a UN human rights investigation report which says 83 children were among the victims, many of whom were hacked to death or burned alive.

The report, published on Wednesday, is the result of six investigative missions conducted by personnel from both the UN Human Rights Office in the DRC and the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (MONUSCO).

Patrick Maigua spoke to Cécile Pouilly from the UN Human Rights Office to learn more of what was behind the killings and what is being done to stop the violence.
