Since 2000, the United Nations has celebrated World Space Week (4-10 October) to show how space science and technology have an impact on life here on Earth.

Anne Thomas recently sat down with Mazlan Othman, the Director of the UN Office on Outer Space Affairs, which is located in Vienna.

While space technology has greatly contributed to keeping people safe on the ground, in the air, or even at sea, she says it goes much further than that. Take crop fumigation, for example.
