The shift from a transitional government in Somalia to one that was approved by the people has been a momentous achievement by the Somali people.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Augustine Mahiga, made this point at a press conference in neighbouring Nairobi, Kenya.

Not only was the transition successful, he said, but it was also peaceful.
