The priority now for Lesotho is to secure food aid for the most vulnerable populations, according to its Prime Minister, Motsoahae Thomas Thabane.

Recurring drought and late rains have resulted in a poor harvest and added to the already fragile situation in the country, he says.

The UN humanitarian agency, OCHA, has launched an appeal for US $38.5 million for the next 6 months to assist the most vulnerable groups.

Mr. Thabane described the situation to UN Radio’s Jocelyne Sambira.
