Approximately 220,000 people have been newly displaced in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo as a result of insecurity stemming from movements by the M23 rebel group.

The UN humanitarian office (OCHA), says while the majority of these people have been internally displaced, a significant number has crossed the border into Uganda where authorities have appealed for assistance to deal with the crisis.

Patrick Maigua sat down with Jens Laerke, OCHA spokesperson in Geneva, who says the security situation means aid workers are being hampered from accessing the displaced.
