UN gets ready to host the world at RIO +20

19 June 2012

The international community is gathering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development known as Rio+20 which officially begins 20 June.

The official discussions will focus on two main themes: How to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty, including support for developing countries that will allow them to find a green path for development; and how to improve international coordination for sustainable development.

Rio+20 is a follow-up to the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and the follow-up meeting, a decade later in Johannesburg.
