Scaling up prevention measures against pneumonia and diarrhoea could save the lives of more than two million children a year, according to a new report from the UN children’s fund (UNICEF).
UNICEF believes these children could have a shot at survival through increased commitment, attention and funding to fight these diseases, the two major killers of children under five years old.
Dianne Penn spoke to Holly Newby, Senior Adviser for Maternal and Child Health in the Statistics & Monitoring Section at UNICEF in New York.
She says sub-Saharan Africa and south-east Asia are the areas of most concern.
