Liberia’s former president, who was convicted for aiding and abetting war crimes in Sierra Leone, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The 64-year-old Taylor was convicted in April on 11 counts, including terrorism, murder, rape, sexual slavery, and recruitment of child soldiers during the 1991 to 2002 civil war in Sierra Leone.

Thousands of people were killed and others had their limbs hacked by rebels during the war.

Julie Walker spoke with Solomon Moriba, the Press Officer for the UN-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone about the sentencing, as well as the scene inside and outside the courtroom.
