The situation in Syria is being closely watched by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for any possible spill over into the neighbouring country.

The head of UNAMI Martin Kobler says the plight of Syrian refugees, as well as the political conflict, are two areas of focus.

According to Mr. Kobler, security in Iraq has improved over the last year despite predictions to the contrary.

On the political front he says there is continuing national dialogue to bring the country together and solve several issues including disputes over internal boundaries.

The Special Envoy is also making a plea to countries to take in Iraqi refugees as Camp Ashraf closes down.

Julie Walker interviewed Mr. Kobler at UN headquarters.
