After two straight days of bombings in Syria there is relative calm according to Major-General Robert Mood, head of the UN Supervision Mission in the country, UNSMIS.

On Wednesday, a bomb exploded near an UNMIS caravan injuring Syrian soldiers.

A day later twin explosions killed more than 50 people in Damascus and injured hundreds more.

Major-General Mood, who visited the scene, says it was a graphic reminder of what the Syrian people are living through.

He also says there are now 105 unarmed observers monitoring several towns in Syria, with the full contingent of 300 expected by the end of May.

Reem Abaza spoke with Major-General Mood about the situation in Syria.
