World Book Day is celebrated annually on 23 April.

The day was chosen as some of the world’s greatest writers either were born or died on that day, including William Shakespeare, Cervantes and Vladimir Nabokov.

 These authors and many others are read by people the world over thanks to the work of translators.

Dianne Penn spoke to Catherine Temerson, a French-to-English translator, about the challenges and joys of her job.
