The number of people who are internally displaced by conflict and violence in Africa has been declining since 2004, according to a new report.

The Global Overview 2011, People Displaced by Conflict and Violence was compiled by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (iDMC) and the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The report shows a total of 26.4 million people were internally displaced in the world at the end of last year, a fall from 27.5 million the previous year.

In Africa, the number of internally displaced people decreased from 11.1 million to 9.7 million, with significant returns taking place in Côte d’Ivoire, Chad and Uganda.

The Head of the iDMC in Geneva, Kate Half, spoke with Patrick Maigua about displacement in Africa.
