Violence in Syria must stop immediately to allow humanitarian assistance to reach the people in need.

The call has come from the Human Rights Council in Geneva during an urgent debate on Syria on Tuesday.

The meeting was held as violence raged in the cities of Homs and Baba Amr where protests against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad continue.
