Peace “tenuous” in West Africa

Progress towards building peace in West Africa has been described as “tenuous” by the top United Nations envoy in the region.

Said Djinnit the head of the United Nations Office in West Africa briefed the Security Council on the situation in West Africa on Monday.

The region has had its share of conflicts and crises in the recent past in such countries as Liberia and Sierra Leone and more recently in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau.
