People around the world and especially in Asia, have high expectations that the United Nations can help to tackle global problems including climate change. That’s what United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has said as he started his second five-year term this month.

He said that during his first term in office, he visited a number of regions and countries, including in Asia and Pacific where small island states are concerned about the impact of climate change. Rising sea levels caused by global warming are threatening to wipe some of these island states from the map. Darrin Farrant asked the Secretary-General what could be done for people living in areas threatened by climate change.
